Anti-Aging Oils

We all fear the inevitable process of aging. We freak out when we see the faintest fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin start; we rush to the nearest departmental store to splurge on expensive skincare products in hopes that it would reduce the flaws that comes with aging. We are unaware that problems like fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin start to appear when the skin’s natural oil production decreases.

Hence, with some special care and attention, we can retain our youth and keep our skin healthy without spending a tonne on anti-aging cosmetics.

Before anything else, it is important to replace the lost oil of our skin in order to keep aging skin supple and hydrated. There are many natural oils that can aid in keeping our skin hydrated, plump and full of life!

Allow us to introduce few of the many oils that contain plenty of antioxidants that would combat the damage caused by free radicals and keep our skin healthy!

  1. Argan Oil

Extracted from a unique type of tree only found in Morocco, Argan oil is made up of 80 percent fatty acids that help combat free radicals and provide anti-aging benefits – according to a study published in Clinical Interventions in Aging.

Rich in Vitamin A and E, it helps reduce wrinkles, age spots, fine lines and sagging skin. Argan oil can effectively maintain the skin’s moisture and elasticity as well as protect the skin from oxidative damage from ultraviolet (UV) rays.

  1. Olive Oil

Olive oil is an amazing anti-aging oil that aids in maintaining youthful skin. Similar to Argan oil, olive oil is also rich in vitamin A and E as well as other minerals and fatty acids that helps the skin in the fight against free radical damage.

If used topically on the skin, it promotes the production of collagen and gives the skin a youthful glow and smooth texture. On the other hand, taking extra virgin olive oil protects the body against age-related diseases as well – such as Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis and so on.

Studies also asserted that mono-unsaturated fatty acids found in olive oil help reduce oxidative stress, insulin resistance and related inflammatory processes.

  1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil aids in the production of collagen and replacement – which prevents aging wrinkles and age spots. Its antioxidant properties combat free radicals and nourish damaged skin. Moreover, coconut oil contains lauric acid that has antibacterial properties which helps with acne.

It is also a great solution to treat chronic dry skin, eczema and psoriasis. Studies done by American Journal of Contact Dermatitis asserted that coconut oil is safe and effective to be used as a moisturizer. It also works as a natural sunscreen that guards skin against sun damage.

  • Massage your body with your oil of choice after a bath or shower to help the skin retain its moisture. Try to do this daily. You can also make a mild body scrub by combining the oil with granulated sugar. Gently exfoliate your skin with it once a week.
